Jog/Walk-A-Thon for Islandwood

What: Raise money to support the 5th grade trip to IslandWood.
When: Wednesday, June 5th
How: Pledge per lap or make an online donation. Making an online donation allows for less money handling, and for donors to obtain a receipt for their giving. Please collect all pledges and turn in the money with your pledge form to your classroom teacher by Thursday June 13th. The last day to turn in your form and money is Friday, June 14th. We ask those writing checks to make them payable to Roxhill Elementary.

What is IslandWood?
IslandWood is an outdoor learning center on Bainbridge Island. While attending IslandWood, students engage in various outdoor learning activities that build students’ self-confidence, team building skills, and knowledge of physical sciences. It has been a tradition for many years that each 5th grade class attends IslandWood. It is an experience of a lifetime!

Why is there a fundraiser?
Last year, this trip was funded by a partnership between Friends of Roxhill, Roxhill Elementary School, and the Jog/Walk-A-Thon. This year we will continue the partnership. The approximate cost of the entire trip is $6,000. The goal is to raise 1/3 of the total cost which equals $2,000. This fundraiser will help pay the tuition for all 5th graders to attend IslandWood in the fall 2019-2020 school year.

How does the Jog/Walk-A-Thon event work?

  1. Students will be given a Jog/Walk-A-Thon packet and pledge form in their classes. Sponsors may donate a flat pledge or pledge per lap.
  2. Begin asking family, friends, and neighbors for donations and record it on the pledge form. Prepaid flat rate pledges are best! For example, “I will contribute $20 to your jogathon.”
  3. On June 5th, students will gather with their class and run/walk for about 30 minutes with a DJ playing music, while parents and other teachers cheer them on! Water and a snack will be provided.
