Immigrant Family Support & School Response

With our federal government targeting many immigrant families across the nation, we know this is an extremely uncertain and difficult moment for our community. We’ve assembled links to the most useful resources for families seeking support and those wanting to get involved. We also have basic information about our school response to a potential immigration enforcement action.

Basic Needs Support

Everybody needs a little help sometimes. From getting your child clothes and food to potential utilities, rent support and more.

We work closely with Ms Amber, Roxhill Elementary’s school counselor. She’s super nice and has many resources to help.

Healthcare, Mental Health, & Dental Care

The Roxhill School-Based Health Center (SBHC) is open for the school year for FREE medical, mental health, and dental services for all students. Contact the clinic to set up an appointment or to register your student.

Seattle Public Schools is implementing a new tool called School Pool to help families connect with each other for ride sharing. We are still learning all the details, but plan to try this out.

Need help getting to school?

If carpooling is not an option, you may be able to use Metro Flex to get to school. If you have other questions about buses or other difficulties getting to school, talk to the front office or another trusted Roxhill staff member.

Afterschool Care

For families that need childcare after school ends, there are multiple programs serving Roxhill:

• YMCA After Care Program at Roxhill*
• Highpoint Community Center*
• Bella Mente**
• White Center Salvation Army**

Special Education & IEPs

The SPS Special Education department works collaboratively with the school and your family to provide the guidance, supports, and services needed to ensure students with disabilities succeed. A referral is your first step in this process. It’s a written request for evaluation and your evaluation will determine what services your child can receive.

The Seattle Special Education PTSA provides resources and support to parents navigating the special needs of their students. Their guide—provided in 10 languages—helps parents navigate the IEP and 504 plan request process.
