Celebrating our generous community and looking toward exciting spring events

Last month, we wrapped up our Winter Basic Needs Fundraiser, raising over $10,000 from almost exactly 100 donors that went to support over 40 Roxhill families. We saw our school community, West Seattle community, family and friends all donate to ensure people had more access to the food and supplies they need during our school break.

Now, It’s time to get excited for all the fun events we’ll have in 2026 together! Skate night, Family Fun Night, community meetings, playground meetups, and dineouts will bring us together. Our online auction will ensure we have the funds needed to continue our work supporting the school and community.

And importantly, we need you to help us plan and volunteer at these events. We hope many of you can make it to our Volunteer Fair on Monday, January 12 from 6-7:30.

You’re invited to our Volunteer Fair: Mon., January 12

Monday, January 12, 6pm – 7:30pm
Roxhill Cafeteria

The start of the year is a perfect time to try something new and get more involved at Roxhill. We know it can be hard to know where to start, which is why you’re invited to the January Roxhill Volunteer Fair! Pizza, Spanish interpretation, and childcare provided!

Join us to hear from other staff and volunteers about easy ways to get involved. You’ll hear about ways to volunteer in the garden, in the office, with Kings & Queens, working directly with students, planning events, and more before signing up for a time to get started if you’re ready.

* Optional but helpful for planning

We’ll also have people available to help navigate the SPS Volunteer Signup process if you want some support.

Can’t make it but still want to volunteer? Check out our Volunteer page for ways to get involved.

New Library Song!

Our January/February library song is “Roxhill Library,” sung to the tune of “APT.” by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars. (Maybe if the students hear an adult singing a song with lyrics  “6 – 7,” they won’t think it’s cool or funny anymore, and they’ll stop? It’s worth a try.)

4th graders getting ready to explore the Duwamish River. Can you sponsor a student?

Roxhill is partnering with the River Access Paddle Program (RAPP) to give our 4th graders a special outdoor education opportunity to culminate their Duwamish history unit.  Students will get to join guides and paddle kayaks on the river, learning through stories and observation about the history of this place, including the rich environmental and cultural stewardship led by the Duwamish tribe.

If you would like to help sponsor a 4th grader you can do so here.  We suggest $25/student. All donations help. Please enter “Roxhill 4th Grade trip to the Duwamish” in the purpose box.

Learn more about the work of the River Access Paddle Program in their current newsletter.

Seeking Auction Item Donations

The FORE auction committee is seeking item donations for our spring auction fundraiser! Our auction will be online from March 23- April 3.  Items that tend to do well include: gift cards (to local restaurants, nail salons, cafes, etc.), certificates, event tickets, experiences, and gift-worthy items.  If you or anyone in your network would like to donate, please fill out this item donation form. We hope to secure all item donations by March 9.

Help Plan Family Fun Night!

Roxhill Global Reading Challenge Competition

Tuesday, January 27, 12:45-1:45
Roxhill Library

4th and 5th grade students have been reading the eight books chosen for this year’s competition. Teams are being formed this week from those students who have expressed interest in participating in the competition. Which 4th or 5th grade team will prevail after answering 24 questions about the eight Global Reading Challenge titles and go on and represent Roxhill in the downtown semi-finals in March?

For those parents interested in watching the competition live, your classroom teacher will share a Teams link with you a few days before the competition so that you can watch in real time. Because the competition is being held right after the last lunch, we cannot hold it in the lunchroom. Because the library is a small space, we only have room for the competing teams to be in the library. Non-participating students will be watching via the Teams link from their classroom. However, if your child is one of the six members on the winning team, you WILL be able to go to the semi-finals and watch the next round in-person, if you’d like. (That’ll be on March 23rd at 10:00am at the downtown Central Library.)
