Happy October, Roxstar students, friends, and families!
At our first community meeting of the year, we were excited to welcome some new parents. We spent most of our time getting to know each other and talking about priorities for the year. We heard what some parents want to see at our community meetings and throughout the year. We heard interest in immigrant rights, special education services, and creating diverse spaces for parents to meet. And we heard that people love attending school events, assemblies, and outdoor education.
Now it’s your turn! Take our brief 5-question survey to let us know what you care about. It only takes a few minutes, and all questions are optional. We want to hear from you whether you want to share just one idea or many.
This month we’ve got one of the best events of the year, multiple happy updates, and a new library song!

We ❤ Our Volunteers!
Thank you to everyone who filled out the Volunteer Interest form! We will be reaching out to everyone in the near future to get to know you better and connect you with ways you can support Roxhill.
Seattle Public Schools has recently updated their volunteer application process, which we know has always been confusing and frustrating to complete. We hope we can help you more successfully navigate this process. If you plan to apply for SPS volunteer approval, contact the front office first.
It’s never too late to start volunteering, and there are so many opportunities both big and small. If you want to volunteer, you can always reach out to friendsofroxhill@gmail.com to get started.
Library Update and new song from Mr. Robert!
All students visit the library weekly. If your student brings library books home (at the teacher’s discretion), please encourage your student to keep library books in backpacks when not reading so that books don’t get lost at home. Here is the weekly schedule:
- Monday – Class of Mr. Mac and both Head Start classes
- Tuesday – Classes of Ms. Turner, Ms. Math, and Ms. Prynne
- Wednesday – Classes of Ms. Sorensen and Mr. Popelka; Mr. Robert visits the classes of Ms. Ellen and Ms. Ashley
- Thursday – Classes of Ms. Kyoko, Ms. Gamache, and Mr. Martin
- Friday – Classes of Ms. Anna, Ms. Green, and Ms. Beal
Mr. Robert creates a new library song (played at the beginning of each library visit) every two months by taking the music of a popular song and changing the lyrics. Here is the library song for September/October:
