Grades 1 – 5 started school last week and this year’s kindergarteners joined them on Tuesday. The halls are full, the garden is bursting, and the school year is off to a great start at Roxhill! This month, we have lots of opportunities to connect with Friends of Roxhill (FORE) and meet other Roxhill families. Read on to learn more about how you can help out in the garden, get to know your child’s teacher and connect with the Roxhill community in September.
Roxhill Learning Garden Update

The Roxhill Learning Garden is bursting at the seams to welcome students and staff back for another great school year! A huge shout-out and thank you to Mr. Mac and our amazing community volunteers, who installed five new garden beds (seen above) at the end of last year. They are positioned perfectly to make every bed easy for students to reach.
If you swing by the garden today, it might look a bit wild. Over the summer, visiting wildlife and gentle winds scattered seeds across the soil. The sprouting plants that took root on their own are called “volunteers.” Most of them came from last season’s crops, but if you look closely, you might spot a brand-new mystery plant or two. How did it get there? Where did it come from? Come wander through the garden to discover the stories it gathered over summer vacation!
What’s Next in the Garden:
- September Cleanup: A Work Party to be held on Sunday, September 20th from 10-12. We will be gently moving wanted volunteer plants and prepping the soil to plant our cool-weather autumn crops.
- Class Schedules: Teachers will be setting up their recurring garden visit times soon.
Get Involved: We are always looking for extra hands! If you can help lead student activities, plan events, translate garden communications, or lend a hand with watering and weeding, please reach out to us at FriendsofRoxhill@gmail.com.
Here’s to a wonderful year of growing together!

Back-to-School Fundraiser

Last year, donations supported trips to Seattle Children’s Theater, the end-of-year field day celebration, and countless classroom supplies such as materials for science projects, new books, and headphones to help students focus.
We hit our initial goal of $4000 – can you help us reach our stretch goal by sharing the fundraiser with family and friends?
