Let’s join together in June and have a great end of school year!

The end of school is nearly here—happy “P for Popcorn Day”!—and we’ve got tons of ways to come together and celebrate. Move-a-thon was a blast on Friday with students completing hundreds of laps! Make sure to get those donations in to support our rising 5th graders go to outdoor school next Fall!

Here are all the ways you can come together and celebrate:

  • Start this Friday with a walk to school with Nurse Ann and Mr. Hakeem with the walking school bus, reading a story prepared by Mr. Robert.
  • Then K-2 students can celebrate summer reading wearing Pajamas in the school library at night with the Pages & Pajama party in the Roxhill Library next Monday.
  • The next day, we’ll be back at school Tuesday, February 9 for our end-of-school block party potluck and vocal concert! Bring a dish to share and get ready for some great performances from every grade level.
  • Enjoy the summer weather for a fun morning at Roxhill “Castle” Park Saturday the 13th with friends.
  • To wrap up school, students we’ll celebrate with Field Day on Tuesday, June 16 and we need volunteers!
  • Students will also receive their yearbooks right before the end of school. Every family who is able is asked to purchase their yearbook for $10.

It’s been an absolutely fabulous year with learning, community, and new experiences. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help, everyone who helped a neighbor or friend, and every student who came to school ready to learn and be a supportive classmate. Every single one of us helps make Roxhill the beautiful, vibrant school it is.

Time to order your yearbook!

Book Up Summer, Free books for K-2

Tuesday, June 9, during the school day
Roxhill Library

Page Ahead and Roxhill are partnering to give all K, 1st, and 2nd grade students twelve books to read over the summer. Kids will come to the library with their class on Tuesday, June 9, and students will be able to select books. Support your child’s reading achievement by seeing what books they selected when they bring the books home during the last week of school, and encourage them to read their books during the summer (or read the books to them).

Book Award winners in Washington State

This year, Mr. Robert read the ten nonfiction nominees for the Towner Award to all 4th and 5th graders, and he read the twenty picture book nominees for the Washington Children’s Choice Picture Book Award (WCCPBA) to all PreK-3rd graders. Over 16,000 students throughout Washington State voted for their favorite for the Towner Award, and over 113,000 students in Washington voted for their choice for the WCCPBA.

The winner of this year’s Towner Award is Capybara. The landslide winner of the WCCPBA is The Bakery Dragon.

Get your Move-a-thon donations in to help win your class a pizza party!

Lots of young children running across the Roxhill playground blacktop

Please remind your students to collect any pledge money for donations for laps they ran during last Friday’s Move-A-Thon. Payments can be made online. Checks made out to “Roxhill Elementary”, or cash should be turned in to the office. We are well below our goal to raise $15,000. The cost to send each student to outdoor school for the week will cost approx. $580/student. Hopefully, we will get closer to our goal. Money should be turned in by 3:00pm on June 5th in order to count toward most money raised per class, and a pizza party.

Want to serve? Seeking Board Members for 2026 – 2027!

Friends of Roxhill is actively seeking volunteers interested in joining the board for the upcoming school year! Our board will best serve our school when it represents a diversity of voices, experiences, and interests. Anyone has the potential to join and work on what you care about most including community building, organizing events, or continuing to work on our efforts to improve outdoor space.

We’ve put together information about board membership and current members for those interested in learning more about board member responsibilities and how to join. Contact Mark Root-Wiley, first grade parent and FORE’s board president, at friendsofroxhill@gmail.com if you’re interested!

Want to help but not join the board?

You don’t need to join the board to volunteer! We need more help supporting event planning, family outreach and support, communications, volunteer management, fundraising, and more. Get in touch and let us know what ways you want to help.

Walking School Bus now WEDNESDAY – Friday

Walk to school with your classmates and adult leaders! We leave from the South side of 24th and Holden at 7:20 am sharp – meet us there or join along the way!

Walk the hill with friends!  Bring your family or let them head home to rest. Make new friends, warm up your body and mind for a strong start to the day.

First Fridays of the month always include a special celebration.

Supporting our community in the face of immigration enforcement

At our February meeting, we joined together to hear from Principal Bruno, Ms. Binkow, and Nurse Ann about how our school will respond to immigration enforcement actions at or near our school. You should know that it is SPS policy to limit access to school grounds and never share any student or family information without a judicial warrant.

We’ve put together a new page on our website to help. It includes:

  • More details about our schools policy for responding to immigrant enforcement
  • Links to resources including Know Your Rights guides and trainings
  • Resources for any families needing support during this difficult time

If your family needs support 💖

We encourage you to contact the front office. There are many resources available and families eager to help.

If you are interested in being involved in efforts to respond to enforcement activity or support our neighbors, email friendsofroxhill@gmail.com to receive potential future information about meetings and requests for support.
